Back in late 1985, I was looking to buy my first Harley. I had decided on a FLHS because I thought that a fairing was for "old folkes"! I kept on thinking (a very dangerous thing for me to do, btw) about it ,and finally bought an '86 Classic instead. Well, 25 years later, I know for sure fairings are for old folks, but it's way too late to change now.

I wanted a fairing for the bike for two reasons. First, I was told it would make highway riding easier (break up of the wind factor) and two, so I could get some tunes onto the bike. I've since solved the tunes issue, and so I've given up the whole fairing idea.

But I still wouldn't do without a windshield. I've had enough "pings" of small rocks, acorns and such bounce off... to EVER think of removing the shield.

Besides... I'm getting older... so maybe a fairing for the next bike. LOL.

I have never been a fan of the windshield or fairing, but man how you change. I love the windshield on my RoadKing, but I also love the quick release, I have taken it off for the summer. I am not sure when, but I want a Road Glide, I never thought I say that, I have never liked the Road Glide, but I love it now and cannot wait to own one.

There are those that like the Road Glide, but I myself am not big on the fixed fairing of the bike. Since I don't presently have a faring of any sort, I guess I shouldn't judge, but on the two demo's that I've taken out since, I find I like the Street Glide better (and who doesn't enjoy a UGC? But that's a WHOLE lotta cash).
